There is a tradition on a few of the blade related sites I frequent, in which the participating members get an opportunity to exchange their wares with each other. It is called the “Knife In The Hat” or “KITH” for short. Sometimes it is folks exchanging their favorite knives and sometimes it is a group of makers who create pieces specifically for the event. This year, I am participating in one of the maker’s KITHs. Names are paired randomly and you ship the knife to your partner. I am very excited. Here is my entry…
I had hammered this one out in the Summer at a reenactment demo and was waiting for inspiration to finish it… the KITH couldn’t have come at a better time. You gotta love the 18th Century propane forge.
I always start with sketches. If I can draw it, I can make it. This was going to be what I call a “fullsized necker” almost big enough to be a belt knife but small and light enough to make a comfortable necker.

…. to be continued…
